The works comprised of the internal demolitions of part of the redundant platform accommodation buildings on Platform 2 to create a new Ticket Hall facility with sliding glazed  doors leading in from the station car park 3 and onto the Platform 2. The existing Waiting Room , Station Manager’s Office and Customer Services were also refurbished with new replacement floor coverings  , decoration and minor M & E works . A new Retail Unit was also created for sub-let by Virgin Trains to a third party tenant .

The works were carried out in close liaison with the Local Authority Conservation Officer as the   station is a Grade 2 * listed building  .
